Blog Journal Three
There are a total of six technology standards for 2nd grade. While I am comfortable with the basic standards of English Education the technology standards are a little less familiar. One of the technology standards that I am comfortable with are smart boards, blogs, wikis etc. I think as a teacher I would be able to effectively teach this standard because of my own experience with creating blogs, and other technology platforms and this would allow me to have good experience using these tools to help teach a class. One of the standards that I am also comfortable with in English Education is using information from illustrations or text to help detail information about settings, plot, etc. or being able to use a variety of publishing tools to produce and collaborate with peers. With that, one technology standard that I feel I could use more experience with is the storybook tool. Although it seems very user-friendly, I think that I would need to practice using this tool more to be able to properly lead the class in using this platform.
In the CPALMS Educator Toolkit I would use the "Connecting Conversations" lesson. Essentially, the students listen to a story that the teacher read aloud and based on that story are supposed to discuss and maintain conversation with each other. I think that although this may be challenging for 2nd grade students, it is very important for baseline communication skills to be able to carry on a conversation with another person. I think that using this item from the education toolkit would allow students to also be better at communication in their writing as well. Being able to have a creative, on-topic discussion with another student would promote the same consistency in student's writing and in other facets of their schoolwork.
Working on the newsletter design assignment I learned a lot of basic skills in word that I had no previously learned before. I learned how to use the column function and place text so that it is cohesive and easy to read. I think that this assignment helped me improve in using word because I have used different platforms to create similar text, but not word. It allowed me to explore different functions of word that I had never used before, such as the set date function. I can use this knowledge in my future career to be able to make text, media, papers, etc. more cohesive and presentable for their desired audiences.
